01

environment

Water is a natural and public resource that should serve the benefit of citizens. This basic precondition for the life of every living organism cannot be a mere commodity for generating profit for private foreign companies that sell this resource far above its price, while citizens also pay for its infrastructure from public budgets through maintenance and repairs of the water supply and sewer networks. So this is a double abuse of public resources: the budgets of cities and municipalities, and natural wealth. In such a case, a municipal water company under public control should be established, which would lower water and sewage charges, invest the payments collected into water infrastructure, and any profits would then serve the public through the public budget.

02

housing

The birth rate, mainly among Czech families, is hitting record lows on the charts for the last 150 years, immigration is increasing the population of the Czech Republic, which raises demand for flats, and young families can hardly afford to buy a new flat. Taking out a mortgage for almost your entire working life is deadly. It's not only estate agents who speculate with property; prices are driven up above all by the scarce and expensive construction of a monopoly of developers, whose revenues benefit from the housing shortage. The private sector won't solve this; the last time cities saw mass housing construction, it came from public developers. Large cities, in cooperation with municipalities, have the option of setting up public-benefit companies that can build on municipal land on a mass scale and twice as cheaply for ordinary people, not for luxury, and those interested can take part in the construction democratically.

03

transport

The legal minimum for free public transport is under 6 and from 70 years of age. Specifically, in České Budějovice the travel pass is more expensive than in Prague, and we stick to this minimum for the categories of residents who ride free. Yet for the city budget this wouldn't be as much of a burden as, say, the overpriced construction contracts that cities award to companies like Metrostav or Strabag. I therefore demand free public transport for young people under 18, students under 26 and seniors from 65 + all categories of people with disabilities. The state or family helps all these categories financially or through taxes in some way, so why burden them with a public transport fare? It's relief and help that, unlike many others, can't be abused. Public transport should serve the public.

A few words about me

I study in Prague, I travel a lot outside the Western Hemisphere, I'm not afraid of physical work – say, with a circular saw, I like restoring vintage vehicles even though I haven't had time for them lately, I'm a beekeeper, I love Russian literature and songs, including Karel Kryl, even though that may be unexpected, I've recently become a political staffer for the chair of the ÚV KSČM, my hobby is history, mainly of the 20th century, I think I'm good at organising public events and now and then I create a bit online or in print in the occasional periodical Naše Naděje, which I run, I enjoy a discussion with people of opposite views too – provided they are democrats not just in words but in reality, able to argue and to listen, I speak English, Russian + basic German, I got into politics at around 13–14, when I started reading more non-fiction, it was neither hardship nor family that brought me to the KSČM, but rather the realisation that a society set up the way it is today, and not only in the Czech Republic, can only end up in a deep crisis without systemic change, because at its centre is not the human being but capital. Words and incantations about democracy are then just a little dance on the stage of media show business, not a real fact, at a moment when international banks, monetary funds and large companies are more powerful than entire states and, through lobbying and capital, can determine politicians and the information in the mainstream media – create enemies to order, a hedonism of consumption tailored to everyone, and keep control over the most important information. It would be sad to come to terms with that and just live an ordinary life.
