Building high-quality public space with an eye for detail

As an urban planner, I'll focus on the sustainable development and improvement of public spaces so that Poruba is a vibrant, self-confident neighbourhood of short distances. The biggest thing will be creating strategic standards for designing and maintaining public spaces. Inner courtyards and yards deserve improvement by being turned into multigenerational, climate-resilient playgrounds for all generations, with quality furniture that responds to today's needs – shading, drinking fountains, community gardens with grills, fenced dog runs with agility equipment, picnic tables, works of art, outdoor co-working spaces or a clear wayfinding system.

02

Climate-resilient greenery in various forms and functions

I'll support planting new trees and good care of existing greenery, which helps cool the city during the hot summer months. The plan also includes more flower beds, community plantings and modern rainwater management and lawn mowing practices that will help us cope better with periods of drought and torrential rain. Each type of greenery (Zámecký park, the picnic meadow, the suburban forest at Myslivna, residual greenery on the housing estates) deserves its own specific kind of care.

03

Strengthening the pedestrian-cyclist-public transport user-driver hierarchy

Transport is a big priority for me: I believe in smart planning that improves conditions for pedestrians and cyclists without restricting drivers. A key task will be a more coherent and fairer solution to residents' parking. Then there's introducing school streets at selected primary schools, contraflow cycle lanes, the option of borrowing a cargo bike (unusual by Czech standards), setting up two-way public transport stops, or putting more pressure on building the much-needed Severní spoj – a fast link between Poruba, the motorway and the centre of Ostrava.

A few words about me

My profession is spatial planning, and I work on involving citizens in meaningful care for urban greenery. I grew up in Poruba, I actively spend time here and I see both its huge potential and its shortcomings. Studying abroad gave me perspective and showed me how a modern city can be managed better. As an urban planner, I care a great deal about how Poruba develops – our distinctive district deserves first-class care so that it's ready for demographic and climate change.
