A few words about me
I come from Hluboká nad Vltavou, but I've lived in České Budějovice for more than half my life, first on the Máj housing estate, now in Vltava. When you move to another city as a teenager, it isn't easy to start feeling at home. What helped me was Budějovický Majáles. I still remember the picnic by Zlatý most or the James Harries concert on the square. That's when I realised that a city isn't just buildings and roads, but above all people and life in the streets.
I didn't go into politics because I wanted to be a politician. I went into it because I felt that some things wouldn't change by themselves. I was very troubled by education, housing, and children growing up in hostels. I ran for the first time in 2022 and two years later I became a councillor.
I found out very quickly that being a councillor mainly means taking responsibility. There were things I simply couldn't raise my hand for as a representative of voters, and in the end we left the coalition because of that. In opposition I learned one more thing – not to be afraid to ask questions, even when others try to silence you. Whether it was KD Slavia, Dům umění, education or big city investments, I always felt that people have the right to know the answers.
What I still enjoy most about politics is meeting people. Listening to their ideas, thinking about them and then trying to turn them into concrete changes. I did that on the council too, where I often passed on suggestions from citizens. I believe good local politics doesn't start at the town hall, but among people, and that's exactly the kind I'd like to keep doing.
