Public space as a firm part of the city's identity

To the west of us, it's normal for public space to be a city's shop window. In České Budějovice I want it to be approached with a clear vision and to become a firm part of the city's identity – modern, functional and timeless. Climate adaptation is also important to me. More greenery and water features, continuing to open up access to the Malše and the Vltava, and a more pleasant city even on hot days.

The European Capital of Culture as a mega ultra opportunity

The European Capital of Culture title is the biggest opportunity for Budějovice since the days when the Emperor laid the horse-drawn railway here for us. But from the statements and concrete steps of the current city leadership, I don't yet get the feeling that there's enough political will to make full use of this opportunity. 2028 shouldn't be just a one-off cultural event for Budějovice that we'll reminisce about in a few years. It should move the city forward and give it an impulse we'll benefit from in the years that follow. I want Budějovice to make full use of this opportunity and remain the most cultural city in the country even after 2028. Simply put, people will want to live in a city that's buzzing with life and will keep coming back to it.

At night you really don't want to walk around Sady...

Every Budějovice local has to understand this: at night you really don't want to go to Stromovka, Sady or along Lannovka. I'm in no way claiming that nothing is being done about it or that the town hall or the municipal police ignore it, but it has to become an absolute priority.

A few words about me

Hiya, as you can read, my name is Pavel and I'm running in 6th place on the coalition list for the České Budějovice city council. I've been existing in this world for 24 years now and I'm studying marketing in Prague.

I've been interested in politics sort of from the very beginning. Even as a little kid, when I was playing in the living room and my dad was watching the news, I used to ask him: “Dad, what's this Nečas?” I love my hometown and it seems only natural to me to try to make it the best place to live. In my view, there's no better way to do that than politics.

I like to live life to the full. I like trains, doggos, time spent with friends, travelling and endless debates in the pub about all sorts of things.

I feel that common sense is disappearing from politics and that it often resorts to excessive activism instead. I want to offer my young perspective and what I've learned on my travels. In France it's completely normal for the quality of public space to be an absolute priority and at the same time an important part of a city's identity and promotion. That's exactly how I'd like public space to be approached in Budějovice too.

On top of that, we have a unique opportunity. In 2028 Budějovice will hold the title of European Capital of Culture, and I want to help make the most of this chance.
