Prague will develop quickly, above all thanks to the recently adopted Metropolitan Plan. But in the future this development will affect us, the young, the most. Yet there are still hardly any young people at town halls, so their voice is often missing when decisions are made. That's why, at least here in Prague 13, I'd like to be the voice of our generation and bring its perspective into decisions about the future of our district.
Prague 13 has over sixty thousand residents. We're bigger than, say, Karlovy Vary, which is a regional capital. Every year they hold a world-famous film festival, while we don't even have a cinema here. But forget the cinema, we, a huge district, don't even have an outdoor swimming pool, which even villages with maybe only a hundred inhabitants have. What am I trying to say? Big housing estates like Prague 13 shouldn't just be places to sleep, but places for living, fun and proper culture.
Since we don't have an outdoor swimming pool, we could at least do with some shade to save us from the heat. With more and more hot summers, this will be an ever bigger problem. Prague 13 does have a huge Central Park, which you won't find just anywhere in Prague, but you need to hide from the heat on your way to the metro or the shops too. Yet here you'll still find lots of scorching streets and footpaths that are unpleasant to walk along in summer. Of course, maintaining greenery costs something, but thanks to our park we already have a fairly big budget for greenery. So I believe our district could afford a few more trees.
I study law at Charles Uni. I was chosen as number five on the Starostové pro Prahu 13 list. I see it as a great honour but also a responsibility, because we face the demanding task of turning our current 0 seats into the best result possible. I'm ready to bring fresh and slightly cheeky energy to the town hall.
Apart from that, I love tramping, I like railways and faraway places, and on my travels I'll also have a good beer or two.
