Main topics

01

public space

Public space is the calling card of every city district, and unfortunately in many places Prague 5 doesn't do itself any favours. I want our streets, parks and squares to be clean, well kept and pleasant for everyday life. Our city district has a number of public spaces with as yet untapped potential, especially in areas closer to the centre. The city should focus more on improving them so that they become places where people will enjoy spending their free time.

02

safety

Prague 5 is home to one of the most important transport interchanges in the capital – Anděl. Besides excellent transport links, however, this location also attracts a considerable number of problematic elements. The area around Anděl has long been plagued by drug addicts, homelessness and petty crime, which is especially unfortunate given that there are three secondary schools and two primary schools in the immediate vicinity. I'm in favour of expanding the zones where drinking alcohol is banned and above all of consistently enforcing these rules, which today is more the exception than the norm. Closer coordination between the municipal police and Policie ČR, which operate in the area in parallel, would also be desirable. Mainly so that the supervision of the Anděl area is more effective.

03

culture

Prague 5 has huge cultural potential and it would be a shame not to make full use of it. I want to support cultural events for all generations, local associations and institutions that create community life and strengthen residents' connection to the place where they live. Our parks offer the ideal space for seasonal concerts, markets and other community events. The embankment on the Smíchov side of the Vltava also deserves more attention; it has the potential to become just as lively and attractive a place as the embankment on the opposite bank.

A few words about me

I'm Šimon Michalčík, I'm 20 and I'm a member of ODS, for which I'm running in the municipal elections. I study at Univerzita Karlova, I'm a patriot, a lover of history and an occasional monarchist who loves his country as much as his city.

I've been interested in politics and social issues practically since I was born. As soon as it was possible, I started getting involved, first in student councils, later in youth political organisations and then directly in a political party. My homeland and its prosperity are the main motivation for all my efforts.

I want to offer Prague 5 my fresh and honest perspective as a young person who has spent his whole life on the border between Barrandov and Malá Strana. I think that with everything our city district offers, it has the potential to become a real showcase of the capital, as it deserves. But there's still a lot of work ahead of it, and I'm putting myself forward to be part of it.
