Supporting cultural life in Havlíčkův Brod

For many years culture in Havlíčkův Brod was at rock bottom – it's not for nothing that young people say "Havlíčkův Brod, the grave of culture". In recent years we've seen a gradual revival, but the choice of programme is sometimes unfortunate. The young generation needs to be represented when cultural offerings are chosen.

Brod through our eyes

Historic monuments wherever you look... Our ancestors built Brod beautifully, but now it's us who live here and we need the town to work for us too. Public spaces for work and for fun, support for creative ideas and education – that's what public space should serve. Let's build places like that here too.

We're doing well. All of us?

Many of us had the chance to grow up in a stable family, in good health and with a good, supportive background. Unfortunately, not everyone. No one should be pushed out of society just because they didn't have enough luck in life. We have quite a number of social services in Brod and they do great work. But without enough support from the town, they'll only barely survive.

A few words about me

I was born in Brod, have lived here my whole very long life, and I'll come back here after finishing university. I'm currently studying in Prague, but I'm always happy to come back to Brod to rest from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Peace and quiet and a pleasant environment are Brod's great strengths.

I'm also a scout in Brod – for 10 years now I've been taking part in and organising all kinds of adventures, passing on practical life skills to children, or we share magical evenings at camps together. Scouting has really given me a lot in life. It offers all kinds of opportunities for self-fulfilment and personal growth.

Thanks to scouting and the grammar school in Havlíčkův Brod, I also found my job and the direction I want to take in life. At grammar school I started taking photos and getting into social media, and an occasional hobby turned into my job.

Brod has an incredible number of things to do, even if it doesn't always seem that way when you're wondering what to do on a Friday evening. But it's not always so much about the place as about the people you experience it with.
