Sustainable development of the city

Poděbrady is a beautiful, cultural town where people want to live. But that also means that, not only in the town itself but also in the surrounding suburban villages, the number of residents has long been growing significantly, and by all indications will continue to grow. However, with this in mind, the town must not turn into a soulless dormitory for commuters to Prague; it must not stagnate and must move forward into the 21st century with small and big steps, so that its wonderful charm and culture do not fade away.

02

Cycling

Try taking a bike away from a girl from Poděbrady. As the well-known Svěrák song suggests, few places in Bohemia are as well suited to everyday urban cycling thanks to their flat terrain as Poděbrady. Yet this potential remains almost entirely unused, because the town badly lacks a coherent network of cycle routes, including to destinations such as the train and bus stations. The last significant construction took place in 2013; since then the town has marked out only a few unsuitable scraps that mostly end and begin in the road or on the pavement. And when roads are reconstructed, cycling features are not taken into account. That is why a central plan of connected cycle routes for everyday life in the town needs to be drawn up, and followed in the long term.

A few words about me

I'm a student of Political Science and International Relations at FSV UK in Prague, and I'm interested in politics, European politics and political geography in my free time too. That's also why I've been a member of Mladí Starostové for a year and a half. But my free time is mainly filled with music and culture. I'm a choir singer, saxophonist and clarinettist, and at the time of writing I'm active in five music groups and one theatre group, the vast majority of them in Poděbrady and the surrounding area. To earn a few pennies for bread while studying, I work as a guide at Křinec Chateau. Last but not least, my passion is travelling around the European continent, and the most interesting means of doing so are the bicycle and public transport. That's how I came to take an active interest in this area of public space too.
