Same journey for the same price

An annual Lítačka pass for travel around Prague costs CZK 3,650; people from Kladno pay CZK 14,126, almost four times as much. Thousands of people commute daily from Kladno to Prague for work, study and bigger shopping trips. The length and duration of our journeys are often the same. I want Kladno residents to pay the same price for the same journeys to work, school, the doctor or cultural events as Prague residents, and in our association we're ready to negotiate on this and look for allies. On city routes, following the example of many towns across the country, I'm pushing for completely free fares.

Flats should be for living in, not for speculation

Kladno has very few municipal flats and almost no new affordable housing is being built. Young families, seniors and people in ordinary jobs are finding it ever harder to find a flat at a rent they can afford. I want to stop the sell-off of municipal flats and keep their rents affordable. I'm pushing for construction of new public housing to begin. Developers who profit from building in Kladno must also contribute fairly to the city for diverse civic amenities.

Nicer streets aren't a dream, they're a right

Public space must serve everyone – children, parents with prams, seniors and people with reduced mobility. Scorching streets without a scrap of shade, neglected pavements or places with nowhere to sit aren't a good environment for getting around the city every day. A well-designed street allows comfortable movement around the city for anyone who needs it. Rainwater can't be left to drain uselessly into the sewers; it needs to be used for urban greenery. It's essential to plant new trees in the streets, expand the network of drinking fountains, and bring back benches, bins and other amenities that make people's everyday lives more pleasant. For safe movement, neglected pavements need to be repaired, the network of cycle paths expanded and needless barriers removed.

A few words about me

My name is Luděk Svoboda, I'm 24 and I'm from Kladno. I'm currently studying at the Faculty of Law of Univerzita Karlova. For five years now I've been a member of Sociální demokracie, where I currently serve as press spokesperson. I have experience leading a number of student and youth associations.

I'm involved because I care about the direction our society is heading – whether it's my home town or the whole country. I see the main problems as cuts to public services, growing wealth inequality and the related injustices at home and around the world.

In my free time I help teach dance classes for young people, go on trips and I'm happy to go for a beer too.
