01

young people

Young people are the key to Ostrava's future development. If we want them to stay in our city, come back to it and tie their future to it, we have to offer them good conditions not only for education and employment, but also for everyday life, their own initiative and involvement in what goes on in the city. I want young people to build a relationship with Ostrava and at the same time have the opportunity to contribute to its development themselves. For that they need space – literally and figuratively. That is why I consider support for community and coworking spaces important, where young people can meet, study, work on their own projects or develop their ideas. For students, these places should be free of charge or available for a significantly reduced fee.

02

public space

Public space must meet the needs of people of different ages. When it comes to young people, we often focus on children and playgrounds, but secondary school students, university students and young adults have their own needs too. Ostrava needs more places where young people can naturally meet, spend time, study or work on their own projects. Besides community and coworking spaces, this also includes cultural and entertainment infrastructure. I consider clubs, cultural venues and other nightlife spots a legitimate and important part of a big city. Their development of course has to be balanced with the quality of life of the people living nearby. The city should therefore look for suitable locations and conditions for them to operate.

03

open city hall and communication

Ostrava can offer quality projects and opportunities, but their value is lost if people don't know about them. That is why I consider it important to strengthen the city's targeted communication with individual groups of residents. For young people, it should be easier to find out what opportunities exist in the city – from educational and volunteering activities to international programmes and Erasmus+ to ways of getting involved in local projects and organisations. It is not just about the amount of information published. What matters is that the information actually reaches the people it is meant for, in an understandable way and through the channels they use. Ostrava's brand is connected to this as well. I want the city to be better at communicating its transformation and its projects.

A few words about me

My name is Daniel Lukas. Ostrava and its future are close to my heart. Even though I study law in Vienna, I have long been trying to contribute to the development of the city I come from. That is exactly why I decided to run for the city council.

I'm not going into politics to collect positions. I want to continue the work I already do today and which I intend to keep doing regardless of the election result.

I see a political office above all as a potential catalyst. Many of the things I consider important for Ostrava can also be pushed forward through civic initiatives, associations, organisations or cooperation with the city. A councillor's mandate can give this work further possibilities and allow some things to move faster.
