01

public space

A lot can hide under the term public space, and that's also why I chose it as my main topic – in my district I see big gaps not only in how it's looked after, but also in its well-thought-out development. We can stop at the unresolved, dismal parking situation: not only could cosier car parks with grass pavers or more efficient multi-level car parks be built, but it could actually become possible to park at all – in Řečkovice that's hard to do, and from 2027, when blue zones are added, it will be practically impossible. Greenery and illegal dumps in Zamilovaný hájek or by the barracks are another sub-chapter of public space in Řečkovice.

02

greenery

A big and essentially separate chapter of public space is greenery. In recent years it has proved to be an indispensable part of urban development, because it lowers the temperature in the streets on hot summer days. There is greenery in Řečkovice – some might say there's plenty of it. But that's because it's an outlying part of the city of Brno, so most of the greenery is naturally located on the edge of Řečkovice. To be fair, greenery has been developed in recent years, but it was a rather unstrategic development without a long-term sustainable plan – some of the trees that were planted and parks that were repaired were being repaired again, cut down and so on after five years... Yet with greenery, what matters most is time, so that a noticeable positive change can show.

03

communication with citizens

A topic that I see as far from negligible, and that needs to be opened up, or rather changed, is the town hall's communication. It does happen, but in either an unpleasant or an ineffective form. The district's official website is proof of the ineffectiveness. The town hall's communication with citizens should be plentiful and open, warm and sufficient, and above all understandable – if it doesn't meet at least the last two attributes, there should in my opinion be a change. The remaining three attributes are a valued bonus. I believe, however, that the current main leadership doesn't meet even those key aspects.

A few words about me

Hello, hi! My name is Jonáš Mahel and I'm running as a non-party member for the Lidovci. It's a party full of people and energy – among them are representatives of the Řečkovice Scouts, Orel and Sokol members, the Catholic choir and many other Řečkovice associations. Their openness and ever-presence seem to me a very positive signal towards citizens – neighbours. I myself have been a Scout for many years, even though my home troop isn't from Řečkovice. I've now been leading it for 6 years. The experience and upbringing from Scouting push me to take an active interest in my surroundings. My parents also brought me up in the Evangelical church, which encourages solidarity. These are the two communities that, apart from my own upbringing, have largely shaped me so far. I'm currently studying at FSS MUNI, where I focus on public affairs and international relations. Alongside my studies I earn extra money as a tour guide for the outdoor travel agency Kudrna. I'm excited by new discoveries and I'm a conscientious hard worker who tries to improve things around him.
