Main topics

01

young people

I want to open the town up to young people and offer them a real basis for life. Part of that will be a pilot student housing project in the centre and affordable starter flats for young families. I will also push for a participatory budget intended directly for young people, so that they can influence what their surroundings look like on an ongoing basis, not just once every four years at the ballot box. At the same time, I will want to give them the opportunity to take part in the town's decision-making through advisory bodies to the board members, made up of young people aged 15–30, who will discuss planned steps with the board members and give feedback.

02

schools and education

Schools should be a place where children feel good and look forward to going. That's why I want to support the creation of modern relaxation and leisure zones at primary schools that will give pupils space for spending breaks actively and contribute to a better school climate. At the same time, I want to connect primary and secondary schools more through joint projects and peer education. When older students pass on their experience to younger ones, both sides gain and natural bonds form across generations.

03

safety

Feeling safe in the town rests above all on prevention and well-functioning public space. I want to support prevention programmes at primary and secondary schools and at the same time strengthen the emergency services by buying modern equipment and creating conditions for sufficient staffing. The second key area is the shape of public space. People shouldn't be afraid to move around the town even in the evening. Good lighting, more open space and getting rid of dark and hard-to-see spots in the centre and its surroundings can contribute to that.

A few words about me

Hi, my name is David Schmidt. I was born in Jablonec and have lived here all my life. My family has been connected with the town for several generations – most of my relatives on my dad's side come from Jablonec and the surrounding area. That's also why I gradually became interested in what's going on in the town, and I'd like to take an active part in it too. At sixteen I started getting involved in student participation at regional and national level. Together with other students from the Liberec Region, I helped found a student association, which I have now been leading for the second year and which more than 100 students from across the region have joined during its existence. Thanks to that, I've gained experience with organising projects, leading people, public debate and looking for shared solutions. Now I'd like to put this experience into practice. I believe young people have their place in local, and higher, politics and that their perspective can benefit the town. I want to show my peers that politics doesn't have to be something distant and that they can get involved in public life too. At the same time, I want to truly represent their opinions and needs and bring them to where decisions about how the town works are made.
